Introduction:

Abuse is the hurtful treatment of a living thing such a human or animal. ( to hurt someone or something intentionally)

Abuse can be physical, emotional, or sexual. Slapping, hitting, and kicking are forms of physical abuse that can occur in both romantic and friend- friendships.

Emotional: ( teasing, bullying, or humiliating)

Threats, intimidation, putdowns, and betrayal are all harmful forms of emotional abuse that can really-hurt- not just as it's occuring but long after he or she is done emotional abusing you.

Sexual Abuse:

Involves forcing, tricking, threatening, or pressuring a person into unwanted or unknown sexual activities and/or events. ( Sexual abuse is a crime of power of a persons right to say "NO") Sexual abuse is the controlling of unwanted sexual intercourse such as licking, or sucking of the body.

 

Sexually Abused Symptons:

  • Depression
  • Excessive bathing or poor hygiene
  • Eating disorder
  • Anxiety
  • Sleep disturbances
  • Running away
  • School/Work problems
  • Low self-esteem
  • Withdrawl from family, and friends
  • Self-destructive behavior 
  • Hostility or aggression
  • Drug or alcohol problems
  • Suicide attempt
Physical Abuse:

Is the force and/or violence that results in bodily injury, pain, or impairment. It can include assault, battery, and inappropriate restraint.

Physical indicators:

  • Sprains, dislocations, fractures, or broken bones
  • Burns from cigarettes, appliances, or hot water
  • Abrassions on arms, legs, or torso that resemble rope or strape marks
  • Internal injuries evidenced by pain, difficulty, with normal functioning of organs, and bleeding from body oritices.
  • Brusies
  1. bilateral bruising to the arms ( may indicate that the person has been shaken, grabbed, or restrained)
  2. bilateral bruising to the inner thighs ( may indicate sexual abuse/intercourse)
  3. "wrap around" brusies that encircle an older persons arms, legs, or torso.(may indicate that physical restraination has been involved.)
  4. Multicolored bruises ( indicating they were substained over a large period of time)
  5. Injuries healing through "secondary intention". ( indicating that they didn't receive the appropriate care needed)
  6. Signs of traumatic hair and tooth loss

Help:

  • Talk to someone. tell a friend, family member, or someone close about your abusive relationship/mate.
  • Get counseling. communicating with professionals about your sistuation can really help solve and cope with the problem. ( helping yourself isn't going to last for too long)
  • Accept help. If someone such a police officer or neigbor is willing to help you get out of your abusive relationship then let them. ( getting help now is safier, than waiting later when you might be begging for your life)

  • Call the National abuse hotline ( 1-800-252-2873)
  • Call the National youth crisis development hotline (1-800-621-4000)
